Back Like We Never Left!

Hey homeschooling families!!!

Until recently, we too a long break from social media, blogging, and the internet BUT we’re still unschooling, we’re still in Washington, DC, and now we’re back like we never left!

Here are some of the things that we were doing during our break:

  1. Becoming Semi-Professional Board Gamers

We love board games and we are a competitive family!! We are not the type of parents that just allow their children to beat us, they have to earn it. Not surprising to us, they learn very quickly how to play (and, sometimes, win) these games. Some of our favorite board games are Scrabble, Monopoly, Twister, Connect Four, and Sorry. We are always looking for more options if you have suggestions.

  1. Socially-Distant Travel

We were fortunate to have been able to take a few road trips while we were away from the internet. We love to travel and visit our family and friends so this pandemic, and the need to be socially-distant, has been hard for us. Thankfully, we found ways to take a couple of trips while staying as safe as possible. Our first preference is to fly (because it is quicker) but road trips are a great way to see multiple cities/states, on the same trip.

  1. Outschool

I can’t remember how we found out about Outschool and I also don’t remember what we were doing before it (I kid!). But, seriously, Outschool is awesome!! According to their website, “Outschool is an innovative education platform that offers a variety of engaging, small-group classes online. Unlike traditional classes, Outschool classes give kids the unique opportunity to explore their interests in-depth via interactive, live video by experienced, independent educators.”

Our boys have taken so many classes on this site and they love it. Kids, of all ages, can find a class on anything that might interest them. If you’re interested in giving Outschool a try, please use our personal link or referreal code (below). We both get $20 off!!

  1. Discovering New Books

Our boys LOVE books. Actually, our whole family does!! Above is a pic of some of our sixth-grader’s favorite books/series. Check out our Instagram page for the top favorite books/series for our first-grader (the list for our sixth-grader is available there too)!!!

  1. Discovering New Playgrounds

Above all else, our children love playing outside!! They LOVE a good playground. Fortunately, we have so many “hidden” gems in and near the city.

Honestly, this is one of the greatest benefits of our homeschooling/unschooling journey. Unlike in school, there is no limit to the amount of time that our boys can spend outdoors. Losing recess or “free” time will never be a punishment for their actions (we choose other methods). Although Mom + Dad are not excited by the frigid winter weather, the boys are still happy to be outside.

What are some exciting things that your family has done lately?

XOXO
