Introducing…Unschooling in DC!

Welcome to our page and thanks for reading our first blog post!!!

As you might’ve guessed, we are a family (Mom, Dad, Big Bruh, Little Bruh) of self-directed learners (aka “unschoolers”). We started this journey in the middle of the 2018-2019 school year (Woohoo to Year 2!). In January 2019, Big Bruh went back to school (after the winter break) and we made the decision, seemingly-spontaneously (but actually, after a lot of discussions, internet research, tears, hesitation, and LOTS of discouragement from others), to submit the required homeschooling paperwork. That was the end of Big Bruh’s participation (i.e., suffering) in the “system”.

Since that day (and after a nice break to de-school), we’ve implemented a combo of unschooling (self-directed learning) and sometimes (slightly-more structured) homeschooling. Oh, and we live in the capitol of the United States of America, Washington, D.C.

Throughout Big Bruh’s journey from parochial and public schools to unschooling, we have found lots of helpful resources and also learned a lot on our own (Mom and Dad are unschooling too!). Now, we want to share these resources, tips, and our journey with all of you! We would love for you to follow our blog (and Instagram page: UnschoolinginDC) and be a part of our journey. If you’d like to chat, ask us a question, or collaborate, please send us an email at UnschoolingInDC@gmail.com!
